THEY TOO LOVE THE BLING!

Why should only the elderly have all the fun? Why can’t the little ones join the party?

Why should mommy and aunty have all the fun? A little girl in a blue lehenga has a complaint about anyone who would listen. She is attending a wedding in a brand new outfit, her hair is adorned with a string of jasmine, and the lensman has already made her a star of the day. Still, she feels something is not right with her appearance.

"Where is the sparkle, the bling?"

Yes, what is missing is a key element of a wedding outfit for women - gold jewellery. Quite often, children are made to wear colourful artificial jewellery matching their attire for the day's celebrations. Parents might not consider it safe for kids to put on precious gold jewellery at the likelihood of losing it in a crowd. But children do love a bit of bling, especially for events like weddings and special occasions.

Tiny tots get gold ornaments as gifts in the initial years, on special occasions and auspicious days. Giving jewellery to newborns has been a tradition among many communities across cultures and countries. While some bought them gold to bring good luck to babies, some look at it as an investment option for the newcomer.

In many households, this collection slowly dwindles as they switch over to a new league of jewellery with all materials and designs and colours. The teens might prefer artificial jewellery, but they could also sport the yellow metal for events and unique ornaments have a way of catching the Insta viewers' eyes.

So, when it comes to jewellery, why should children be far behind in setting trends and creating fashion yardsticks? True, children have the natural sparkle of innocence, and they might like colourful artificial jewellery to match their outfits and create a casual appearance. Still, there is a whole new range of ornaments for young members of the family as kids' jewellery is creating ripples in the jewellery scene across the globe.

For the newborns, the selection could be limited to bangles, bracelets, thin chains and anklets. For the slightly older lot, options are aplenty. Enamel work adds the much-needed colour to pendants and earrings while stones and beads bring additional charm to bangles and necklaces.

And these ornaments can be as non-traditional as duck-design pendants and cartoon characters as earrings. Let them be fun, whimsical and charming. Go for teddy bears and Santa Clause, and deers for the little one to wear on the days she feels like celebrating.

Want something special for your special girl? Pick anklets in white gold embellished with charms. That is sure to make her happy as she matches it with a charm bracelet and necklace.

You do not have to limit the choice to bangles and anklets alone. Many ornaments in myriad designs and sizes are available for your little one. Alphabet pendants, rings with birthstones, earrings, name-engraved bracelets, small jhumkas, chokers, thin danglers.... the collection is unlimited as your love for her.

A birthday party to attend? Pick a dancing doll motif pendant to go with her floral frock. Wedding in the family? Go all out and buy her ornaments to match her attire. It is gold, you know. It is your investment too
